About Golden Elders

About Lynn

My name is Lynn Schopler M.S., a native Napervillian. I grew up in the 1950s, when Naperville was only about 5,000 people. Born to Bud and Ginny Getz – members of what Tom Brokaw called “The Greatest Generation” – I learned traditional values.

Growing up on a farm on River Road (by the way, my childhood home still stands), my orientation was rural living and rural virtues. The farming community reflects the idea of “extended family” and all the wonderful qualities that term represents. Whether it was helping to bring in the crops or running errands for someone in need, your neighbors were always there!

We take care of our own and each other, especially in times of sickness and tragedy. My mother took care of both her parents at home, and the memories of my Grandfather living with us are vivid and filled with beautiful sentiments and love.

The Beginning of Golden Elders Day Care

After moving from the farm, I married, had 2 sons, and received a B.A. from North Central College. In 1992, I received my M.S. in Counseling Psychology. Presently, I am teaching psychology in the evenings at College of DuPage.

For 4 years, I had the honor of taking care of my parents. As a result of that journey, I felt a need to honor them and to help other caregivers. In November of 2008, I opened an adult day care in my home.

Lynn and her Parents

My goal is to enrich the lives of both the caregiver and their loved one(s). I have created a safe and warm environment for my guests and a respite for my fellow caregivers. Caregivers need time to recharge their batteries, and my guests need a place to have fun, make new friends, and feel comfortable just being themselves.

I have lots of good ideas, and I am always willing to add more “toys” to my collection. If you feel like playing games, than we’re ready! But maybe you just want to relax and watch TV or even lie down for a catnap. Golden Elders wants to please.
